Afraid Yet Filled With Joy
“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. ‘Greetings,’ he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’”(Mat 28:8–10)
The women left the empty tomb trembling with both fear and joy. Their emotions capture the mystery of resurrection—overwhelming, unexpected, yet glorious. In their obedience to carry the message, Jesus Himself met them on the way. What a beautiful truth: when we step out in faith, even with trembling hearts, Christ meets us with His presence.
Their response was immediate worship. They clasped His feet, acknowledging His victory over death. Jesus reassured them, “Do not be afraid,” and gave them a mission: to tell His brothers. The resurrection is not only a personal encounter but also a call to share the good news.
In our own journeys, we may feel both fear and joy. Yet, like the women, we are invited to worship and to witness. The risen Lord meets us, strengthens us, and sends us forth.
Prayer: Risen Lord, thank you for meeting me in my moments of fear and joy. Help me to worship you wholeheartedly and to share your victory with others. May I walk in courage, knowing you are alive and with me always. Amen.
